I am searching for a new laptop to replace my dreadful HP G71 Series.
I am going off to college soon and need a laptop that is going to be good for me and great for gaming.
I want to play Steam Powered games like Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and Fallout: New Vegas without slow, tedious, awful performance.

How do you feel about this laptop and could you give me any other suggestions if it's not up to standards. Thank you!

The Series 7 is a great thin & light notebook but Im not sure the Radeon HD 6490M graphics card is going to get you the gaming performance you want, especially at the default 1600x900 resolution.

Solution
Might you have any suggestions in what Laptops I could be looking into strictly for high-performance gaming? I am on a budget, however, of roughly $1,100.

You're probably looking for notebooks with AMD Radeon HD 6770M or Geforce GT 550M or better graphics.

Are you OK with 17" notebooks? Or do you want to keep them down to 15" models?

I am okay with 17'', I actually prefer those. And could you list what you would prefer to use? I am not tech-savvy. Thank you so much for your help so far.

At the top end of your budget:
Dell XPS 17 Core i7 Notebook ~$1149
Core i7-2670M 2.2GHz Sandy Bridge CPU, 8GB RAM 2x 500GB (1TB total) 7200rpm HDD, Blu-Ray optical drive, 17.3" 1920x1080 LCD w/ Geforce GT 555M graphics card.
With a single 500GB HDD and a standard 1600x900 LCD screen you could probably get the price down close to $1000.

HP Pavilion dv7 Quad Edition Core i7 "Sandy Bridge" Laptop starting price $800 and about the same price as the Dell XPS 17 when equipped similarly with the Radeon HD 6770M graphics card.
