Laptop gpu stuck to mobo via thermal pad?

Hello all,

I have an ASUS G60Vx laptop, recently upgraded to a T9600 from a P7450. I removed the thermal pads, cleaned up the contact area, and applied new thermal paste. Not bad for a first timer, I think.

Then I decided to try to replace the gpu's thermal pad, a GTX 260m, since speed fan kept reporting temps of at least 80 C when ever I'm playing something rather intensive.

However, I'm currently convinced that the gpu has literally melted its thermal pad and it's stuck to the motherboard. I am way too afraid of damaging it through force of removal, and I don't have any viable means of somehow reaching the pad and chipping away at it.

Any ideas appreciated!
