Laptop keeps freezing randomly - how to fix

Hello,
my laptop keeps freezing, sometimes wont even start, dont have the cash to take it in, im not very technichally minded - but i can get into the phoenixbios screen F2 at the start. I can also press F8 but there isnt a repair your computer option. i was doing a disk defrag the other night, was 2 hours in then crashed :S

Much more information is needed here. How old is your computer? What version of windows do you have? What make and model is it?
When you turn your computer back on does it tell you windows recovered from an error? If so click more information and copy and paste that into a reply please that would make this easier.
