laptop keeps shutting down after 3 seconds

k my laptop keeps shutting down after turn it on for 3 seconds. it just shuts down by itself. could it be the cpu fan? or could it be that my cpu just died?

i have presario a900

its like instanstaneously. it all started one day while i was watching something and it just froze. then i did a hard reset and this problem appeared ever since

i might try reseating the cpu

You could remove the RAM, and see if it will beep, remove the battery and power with just the adapter.

nothing. i can get the lights to go on, but no display and cpu fan dosent spin.

What you have, maybe, is a component on the motherboard is defective, this is the reason the laptop shuts down after around 3 seconds. Which component is defective, the only way is testing how the laptop is powering up, will reveal the bad part.

so how could i test that?
could it be my hard drive? i really doubt that though.
