Laptop network issues

I have windows 10 laptop and it connects to the WiFi just fine but when I try to plug a ethernet cable into the laptop it says connected but can't connected to the internet. The cable is connected to the router then the modem. Please help.

does it work if it connect to the modem directly without the router?
