Laptop not charging unless completely drained

My laptop, gigabyte p35k wont charge if I let the power go too low, around ten percent. If I dont let it drop that low it charges up. If I do let it go that low then nothing I do will make it charge up and it eventually shuts down and then when I turn on will start at the bios screen and I have lost everything I was working with.

I should also mention the battery icon shows a red x and does not say it is charging until it has shut itself down or if I jave not allowed the battery power to go too low.

laptops have a matter of batteries failing often if you don't walk about with the laptop then just fire the adapter in take the battery out to stop it overheating and cause risk of a fire. i have a laptop here that is in parts and it functions able to turn on browse etc without a battery. has been like this for a good 8months works a charm

It sounds like you are in need of a new battery as yours is going bad.

I think you may be right, its not good as it is only a few years old but I have asked around and your answer seems to be the general consensus. Now I just have to locate a new one!

Thanks for the suggestion, it is a built in battery and I do move it around so taking out the battery and just plugging in is not really going to work for me. Although, it is useful to know that if it does completely go and does not charge at all then I can do this while waiting for replacement battery.

All battery question should be answered by: What's its CHARGE CYCLE, or HEALTH? These are numbers. A worn battery will exhibit unexpected symptom as described, it won't behave as you would normally expect. Quick charge, quick discharge, suddenly dies even at 40% typical. If you knew the two items above, just like when a patient tells you "Am 90 years old" then you go Ah. Unfortunately Windows for odd reasons don't give you these numbers, you have to dig for them. Fortunately lots of third party free utilities to provide this information.
