laptop power turns on then off

My 2 year old vaio laptop(model no:VGN-NS10E) does not start up. When i try to turn it on, the power indicator turns green for a few sec then automatically goes off. I tried to do the whole take off power cable, battery then pressed the power button thingy and it didn't work as well.

I'm thinking offhand that the laptop has experienced a heat event and shut itself down for self protection. One of the issues when that happens is that the temperature sensors stop functioning properly for a while. They do reset eventually.
Did the laptop suffer an overheating event? Has the laptop ever been disassembled and cleaned?
