I'd check out your model number on Google against others that re for sale on Ebay, & Craigslist before ballparking what you think you can get out of it.

Like Google Asus i3 2.53ghz and see what you find.

Used computers are sometimes difficult to sell... I was once interested in a Canon camera in my local Craigslist and the guy wanted more than I wanted to pay for it (used.) You have to take in consideration what a buyer is thinking when you sell your used stuff...Like, How much porno was created though this Canon camera, or how many times has the camera been drop kicked... or how much more is it to buy it brand new with a money back guarantee? Anyway, I ended up with a new Canon camera for $50.00 more from a store which, gave me peace of mind.

So you may find that your Asus is worth $X.xx but you may not get X because of inherent buyers mixed feelings about used hardware.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

No no no no, there's a far more accurate and precise way to calculate exactly what your system is worth, it's called "depreciation" and it's simple basic accounting. Here's how you compute what your system is worth. Take what you paid for it, subtract salvage value (if there is any) and then in the year that you go to sell it multiply by the month of sale.

For instance:

Say you paid $750 for your laptop and there's a salvage value of $150 and you've had it for two years.

Year 1:

(($750 - $150) / 2) = $300

Year 2 (if selling in March = 3/12, April = 4/12, May = 5/12, etc):

$750 - $300 = $450

$300 * 3/12 = $75

$450 - $75 = $375

With those values you can expect to sell your laptop at $375, that represents the book value. If you sell it over $375 it's a gain on sale. If you sell it below, it's a loss on sale.

i agree with inlikeflint. you have to go with ebay or some sort of reseller of things to get an estimate on what you can sell it for. just look to see what other people are selling it for. search for your model and guestimate. it's easy to sell an item on ebay.

inlikeflint: why did you say "dude is it a dell?". there's nothing wrong with dell laptops. in fact, they make some of the best laptops still to date. it's how you pick out your hardware that matters. i have yet to see anyone compete with dell in computer sales. for many of reasons which i'm not going to list. but yeah, dell has the best sales for computers then any other company to date and by a lot.

Again I will say that's the absolute worst way of going about figuring out how much to sell your laptop for. Like I said simple straight line depreciation is the easiest and most accurate method for determining how much your laptop is worth and there's no guesstimating involved.

yeah, but who's going to buy it if there is no "guideline"? it's easy to sell it on ebay or something with a guideline. i can see where your coming from and that might be true, but i still think he had the right idea to say ebay is a guideline. like if i was searching ebay and found a cheaper choice i wouldn't buy his just cause his had a depreciation quote. know what i'm saying? you kind of have to go with the crowd. like say for instance. i just bought a nice deal on a computer part from ebay cause it was really cheap. i'm going to buy whatever is the cheapest option is.

who's going to buy it? it's easier to go with the crowd, i +1 his idea cause it's easier and seems more logical.

Again, that's the absolute worst way to find out how much your laptop is worth. I don't care how many times I have to point this out, I will debunk this point until I'm blue in the face. It's literally one of the first things they teach you in any basic accounting class. There's an exact science to finding out how much your laptop is worth and I outlined it in my post above. Just guesstimating how much your laptop is worth, it will flat out not sell. It's called "straight line depreciation" and it's an exact science, and uses very little math, and using that formula you can find out how much your laptop is worth in five minutes.
