Laptop ram 2X2gb or 1X8gb

Hi guys I was looking for some hardware advice I have a fairly old laptop I upgraded HDD to an SSD which has helped extend its life I wish to increase my ram memory parts are hard to come by I can either get 2 sticks of 2gb ram or a single stick of 8gb ram for reasonable prices. Which option would you guys pick?
2 sticks of 4gb ram is too expensive for me in excess of £106 in the UK

I have a Dell M1330 I used the Crucial downloader to check compatibility it has two slots for ram but should be able to run with just one.

2X4 is better than 1X8. They take turns processing data while the other "refreshes". It's called Dual Channel memory. Many newer computers even use 3 Channel.
