Laptop screen is broken and it wont work on a monitor

Hello,
I have a HP laptop and I dropped . My sceen is totally broken it wont even turn on but the laptop turns on I can hear the sound to. Ive tried to use an external monitor but it doesn't work. I need my files from that laptop really bad. Please someone help me WHAT SHOULD I DO ?

Press the external display combo. Usually Fn + some F key with a little monitor icon on it. That should cycle your output from Internal Display to External Display.
