Laptop shuts off after a few seconds of failing to charge

Recently I got a new charger, because my old one has gotten to the point where you have to bend the cord around until it decides to start working. Since then, my computer started to crash when I played Battlefront, after which point it would crash on start-up, on powering on, and a little while after logging in. After a while of this happening, it just stopped and worked normally. Each time it crashed it wouldn't be a simple blue screen. Instead the screen would cut black, all status lights would go out, and it would always be accompanied by a distinct click/thud noise coming from about where the hard drives are.

I recently found that just before my computer crashes, it starts to lose its ability to charge. I found this out by turning on Balanced power mode (it seemed to make my computer more stable than High Performance) and going to launch Battlefront again, at which point my screen turned light and dark several times as it lost, regained, and lost connection to the charger. After about 15 seconds of this (and me turning the cable in a few circles trying to make it stop), my screen cut to black with that same noise coming from the hard drive.

Is there something I can do to fix this? I'd really like to avoid having to buy a new computer. If it helps, my machine is an ASUS G75V from 2012. It's got a GeForce GTX 660M and an Intel i7-3610QM.

Hi

It is mostly likely that actual battery inside is dead if your computer is failing to charge even with a new charger. That would be a good place to start looking.

My computer is unplugged as I'm typing this. The new charger charges it just fine; my problem is that my computer crashes when I launch games, and sometimes when I haven't even done that. I said it stops charging when it is about to crash.

Old one's output is 19V and 9.5A
new one is 19.5V and 4.61A

That's probably your issue. The new charger is only capable of putting out less than half the amperage of the old one. You need one that puts out 9.5A or more. I don't think the half volt difference between the two would be a major deal, but it would be nice if that was 19.5V as well (but no more), just to be safe.

I just tested it in Battlefront, and I was able to run the game just fine with my old charger plugged in. When I unplugged it, it ran slowly for about half a minute before I got the same crash. Since the new charger just alternates between charging and not charging, I'm guessing the problem is when my computer is just on battery power. It's not running out of battery, because I just turned my computer back on and it's at 96%.

Where would I be able to get a new battery? And it'd probably help to know where to get a better charger, but I can probably either find that myself or keep using this one.
