Laptop upgrades question

I have an hp envy ts17 that I bought Christmas 2013 with an nvidia geforce gt 740m and 8gb of ram and i was wondering if i can up upgrade either? at least a gtx version and 16gb of ram

You can probably upgrade the RAM- check the bottom of the laptop to see how easy it is to remove the case or ram cover. Unless you are actually using a lot of RAM (not likely unless your usage is atypical) the upgrade won't improve your performance by much.

You cannot upgrade the GPU.
