Hello,
I inserted an USB stick into my girlfriend's laptop and it shutdown immediately giving the usual sound you get if you unplug it.
I have used this stick on another laptop for a while a couple months ago and it was OK.
The laptop is an Asus X551M.
Now it gives no sign of life, not even the LEDs when I plug it into the wall.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The USB port may have shorted out, try resetting the BIOS in the system if it has a CMOS battery. Unplug wall power and remove the battery (if removable), pull the CMOS battery out for 10 seconds, try again. Some systems don't have a removable CMOS battery these days also, if you don't, look up your model and how to do a BIOS reset. If it does not work even...

No, as I said I have used that USB before and it's definitely not a USB killer.
