Laptop wont charge

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 and when i have the battery in, it does not work properly, like the keyboad wont work right and i have to bang on it. The mousepad works, but its slow. The battery is old, and so is the computer. I need help!!!!! WHAT DO I DO!!! It is driving me crazy. And lastly the battery wont charge. It sais its a 4% but i unplug the AC adapter and it dies! The battery wont charge to 100% Please help me!

I'll venture that you simply need a new battery for the laptop, those batteries do not last more than a few years
