laptop wont connect to tv

hi my laptop doesnt have a hdmi slot so i went and bought a vga cable and the other half of the lead is a hdmi lead so when i put the vga part into the laptop and the hdmi part into the tv it doesnt come up jusy says no signal does anyone know how to fix this thanks

And it won't cause it can't.

A vga port has no digital signal, so a simple converter cable can't work.

My acer laptop window 8 screen has been broken and I tried to connect it to my TV with hdmI cord but nothing is displaying on the tv screen please help out what can I do because I need o use the laptop very urgent
