Hi,
Recently I have been having problems with my laptop's fan. Whenever I turn on my laptop without it being plugged, the fan goes loud expelling cold air.
However if I turn it on while plugged in, the fan runs normally.
Same problem occurs when I wake up the laptop from sleep status.

Model: Asus Q550lf
OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit

Solution
This proplem can be caused from the motherboard, BIOS and even CMOS an update may fix it. But you can check your fan if it has dust in it (inside the laptop). On battery power most fans are set to only cool when a set temp it reached. on AC most fans are set to stay on all the time. Try and change the power plan when its on battery on High performance and run HWmonitor to check the temperatures
