Lenovo G505S Mobo & RAM Type Confusion

Does anyone know the name and/or specs of a Lenovo G505s motherboard?

I need to know as I have that laptop but do not want to deconstruct the thing. I'd love a link to a diagram too.

Need to know what RAM it can handle, as I'd love to use the fastest RAM I can get my hands on. I understand I am limited to 16gb, but I don't know why Lenovo are saying I'm limited to DDR3, what would happen if I tried using DDR5?

I also need to know if this laptop has a slot for a dedicated GPU.

AMD 5750m APU
Current RAM: 8gb DDR3 1600 something

cannot use ddr, ddr2, ddr4 or ddr5 ram as not pin compatible. same as cannot use an intel cpu in place of amd cpu as not socket compatible.

So are you saying it wouldn't physically fit?
Also, it says I can only use 1600MHz ram, is this fast RAM and what would happen if I used ram with greater than 1600MHz?

Love the analogy! Really easy to understand mate, thanks very much! Would 1866MHz be significantly better? Going for 16gb DDR3 then, just need to know what frequency.

Would you recommend a particular model of RAM?

check to see if you have 1x8gig stick of ram or 2x4gig sticks of ram. if have 1x8gig then get the same stick. if have 2x4gig sticks then get the 2x8gig ddr3 1866. won't see difference between 1600 & 1866 speed.

Does it matter what brand of ram? I'll check tomorrow how the ram is configured.

try to stay the same make & model as will be running in dual channel mode not single channel mode if different.

OK. But if it would make my PC better I'd be open to taking all the other RAM out and just adding 16gb of the best DDR3 and highest frequency I can get. Is Corsair or other brand ram worth it?

it is your money & your laptop to do whatever you want to upgrade it. check to see what you have 1st for ram. check the Lenovo site to see if they have list of compatible ram for your laptop.
