I have a Lenovo X140e Thinkpad (originally had Windows 8.1, now had Win10) that has a peculiar shut down problem. Whenever I have it plugged in it shuts down just fine, but not when unplugged. When unplugged it goes to the windows "Shutting Down" screen with load wheel, then the screen shuts off, however the hardware keeps running (power on light, wifi on light and fan are clear indicators). Does anyone have a clue as to what might be happening? Would it be an OS-related problem or would it be BIOS related?

Hi,

Have you tried changing the Power Option settings?
- Open Power Options then click on Change Plan Settings then Change Advanced Power Settings.
- Expand Hard Disk then set Turn off Hard disk after to NEVER.
- Expand Sleep and set Allow hyrbid sleep to OFF.
- Set Hibernate after to NEVER.
- Do also set Sleep Mode to Never.
- Click Apply and OK then test it again.
- Next is to check if the Power Button is set to shut down the laptop or just let it go to Hibernate.
- Test the laptop again after doing all these settings.

Thanks, "Turn off Hard Disk" was the problem, everything else was already set properly. It fully shuts down no problem now.
