Lenovo Y410p vs y510p 779.99$ models to replace a lenovo y580

I'm looking at 2 very similar laptops the y510p 779.99$ with i7 4700mq, 15.6" 1366x768 glossy wedge screen and gt 750m 2GB GDDR5 vs. y410p 779.99$ with i7 4700mq, 14.0" 1600x900 HD+ Glossy LED Backlit, and gt 755m 2gb gddr5. My question is, would it be more beneficial to buy the lower res larger laptop with weaker GPU or to get the smaller laptop with a slightly more powerful gpu? My current laptop is a lenovo y580 with a 1366x768 screen and a gtx 660m gddr5 2gb.

I think the GT 755m is just an overclocked version of the GT 750m so the difference in overall performance will not be great However, that is my assumption.

Based on my experience with the 14" 1366x768 resolution Lenovo Y470, I find that the 1366x768 is fine for games. I really have no serious complaints about that resolution for games. The one exception is that it makes sniping / shooting at long range more difficult because of the low resolution. I found that out when playing Skyrim. I forget what the pair of towers is called, but there is a bandit standing at the top of one of the towers on a wooden platform. Somewhat close to the tower are some rocks which is far enough away that if I stand up in plain sight the bandits do not bother me.

I crouch by the rocks to pick off the guy standing on the wooden platform with my bow. It is easier to do this on my desktop with a 1920x1200 resolution monitor and it is to do it on my 1366x768 resolution laptop. There are more pixels devoted to that target which make him easier to see.

When not playing games (most of the time), I find the 1366x768 to be too low for me to effectively multitask. Which means many windows / programs open at the same time so I can switch back and forth between them. The low resolution means I really can have more than 2 windows / programs on the screen at the same to view the information / do the things I want to do. Even with just the 2 the desktop space is limiting.

My next laptop will very likely have a 1920x1080 resolution screen. Higher screen resolution means lower performance compared to a lower resolution screen unless you set the game to use lower resolution. That means I would rather choose the Y410p with the 1600x900 resolution screen and the slightly faster GT 755m over the Y510p with the 1366x768 GT 750m. At native (max) resolution you will get better performance with the Y510p in games.

Personally, I would simply choose the Y510p and configure it with a 1920x1080 resolution screen so that the laptop will be more useful to me when I am not playing games. When I do play games I can always lower the resolution to 1600x900 or 1366x768 if I want better performance. Using less than maximum resolution on a LCD screen will make graphics not as sharp. Still looks good in my opinion, but just not as sharp. I find that to be an acceptable trade off.

Replacing the screen wouldnt be an option as my budget is the 780$ on the dime, maybe at some point but not for awhile would the higher resolution make up for the smaller screen? Or would it be a more viable,solution to overclock the 750m to match the 755m and then sactifice the higher resolution.?

If max budget is $780 before taxes, then I would personally prefer the 14" Y410p with the 1600x900 resolution. A resolution of 1366x768 is simply too low for my own needs.

I so not believe you will be able to overclock laptop graphic chips. Or at least you would need to do a bit of research.
