My son shut his laptop without turning it off for about twenty minutes. He opened it back up, and got a black screen. The keyboard lights and everything else is on.

When he uses an hdmi cord to attach to an external screen, he gets a short-lived "retrieving data" notice, then "no signal" on a black screen.

He tried a hard reset, but it made no difference.

He's had this laptop for almost a year, and it's been perfect, till today. What is going on?

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in resolving the issue.
- Do a hard reset first, unplug the AC adapter and press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
- If there are lights on the laptop (HDD and WIFI indicator) try and connect an external monitor and see if you'll get any display from it.
- If there's no light on the laptop you may need to reseat the RAM first but if you're not comfortable opening your laptop I would suggest to contact Lenovo Support for a repair if it's still under the factory warranty.

We did a hard reset. It didn't work.
There are lights on the keyboard portion of laptop
External monitor shows a quick "retrieving data" notice, then "no signal" to black screen
