So I just got my Y50, and eveything has been working pretty good, except every time I plug in my headphones, I get some pretty loud static.

The static will not be present when the volume is at zero, and is constant, meaning when I play music louder the static doesn't get louder, but the static is the same from volume 1-100.

I've heard that resetting the BIOS can help, but when I restart the y50, the startup screen doesn't list any key to press to access the BIOS to do a factory reset. I've tried restarting and pressing F1, F2, F8, and "delete" and none have brought me to the BIOS screen. Lenovo's manual has not been helpful.

I've also heard reinstalling the audio driver will help, but where would I find this?

Which method sounds the best to fix the problem?

Also I've heard that it might just be a dirty jack, but I don't think that's likely on a brand new computer.

BTW it's definitely not the headphones.

Uninstall your Realtek HD Audio drivers from the control panel and restart. Try the generic audio drivers Windows 8.1 automatically installs. Let us know if that helps.

In case you need the drivers again, they should be in your D drive named "LENOVO". Folder path D:\Drivers\Audio.

different headphones did not work, and changing the driver only helped slightly. The static is now audible even when the volume is set to 0, but disappears again when on mute, so I'm just assuming that's a difference in how the two different drivers handle 0 volume. After converting to the generic driver, the static is now quieter, but still annoying.

I think I've just got a bad port, as I've heard is common with laptops, which is really disappointing on a new laptop. I guess I know not to pick lenovo again.
