Lenovo Y510P Screen Resolution Upgradeable?

Hi

I got this laptop from outlet store the screen is only 1366X768 HDXGA

Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade to 1080p?

I found the screen replacement here

I'm not sure if it will work properly as long as 40pins connector match? I've called Lenovo ,they do not have any information on this upgrade

Technically, you can upgrade it since there is a option for a 1080p screen on a Y510p laptop. Is it a simple swap? I don't know.

I far as I know the 40 pin connector is standard for all laptop LCD displays.

The question is will the BIOS / GPU recognize the screen? I would believe so, but that is just an educated guess.

The BIOS should be fine. The connector size should be fine. The biggest thing you have to look out for is if Lenovo is cheaping out by using a single-channel LVDS cable instead of a dual-channel LVDS cable for the 1366x768 display. A single channel cable is exactly the same as a dual-channel cable, except for a few missing connections/pins. Connecting a 1920x1080 display to a single-channel LVDS cable generally results in vertical stripes as half of the columns will not be displayed. Consult the Y510p service manual to see if there are different cable part numbers for each display.

I can't thank you enough for confirming this as this is exactly what I am seeing when I connect the new 1920x1080 LCD panel to my ASUS S56C laptop. I had narrowed it down to the cable or the motherboard output etc, but the slight chance that it might be the panel itself was quite worrisome. Now that I know its the LVDS cable at least I can try finding a dual channel cable to use my LCD.

Though this is an old thread, I would just like to clarify for people like me (that are still looking to upgrade to a 1080p display from a 1366x768 stock from lenovo) that you will need to also upgrade to a dual channel jlvds display cable. After purchasing a 1080p replacement for my y510p I was dissapointed to discover that there was no output due to the laptop coming with a single channel lvds. There also seems to not be any replacements that are able to be told apart from the single channel. 🙁

I have the same case, in service manual we have only one LVDS for both HD and FHD. And we have more than 5 Motherboards, 3 are 47 W with FHD capability. So that why it's motherboard ISSUE. Sorry. If iam wrong, give the solution.

So far I have not been able to upgrade the display by simply swapping the 768 with the 1080... The only apparent options would be to either upgrade the motherboard to a 47 watt compliant system for the output on a 1080p display, or upgrade laptops all together.
