Right now I have a choice of one laptop out of two similar models the difference lies in resolution. -Lenovo Z510 i7 2.2, 740m with 1366x768 resolution and the other is the exact same model but difference in being full hd with 1920x1080 and I dont know which one provides better performance. I can afford both.
Also is it a good gaming notebook?

with the 1080p screen, if you feel things arent going as well as you had hoped you can always tone down the resolution.
In terms of everyday applications and workloads, both will perform pretty much the same.
In terms of movies and games, they will perform the same provided the setting are identical ; only difference is the the 1366 x 786 model wont be able to do things at 1920 x 1080 while the 1920 x 1080 model will be able to perform tasks at full HD and at 1366 x 768.

as for whether or not this is a good gaming laptop (what is the price?);
depends on the resolution you will plan to game at.

If you plan to game at 1080p then, the cpu is fine but for the graphics i would aim for the GT 750m or gt 850m at least

the GT 740m is fine for gaming at 1366 x 768 however.

Hope this helps!

Will lowering the resolution on 1080p from 1920x1080 to 1366x768 on a full HD one provide lower quality since it's supposed to stretch pixels to achieve full screen.

Also, I have a choice of getting a Lenvo Y510p and that has a 755m gpu however it's not SLI also, I felt worried about getting it since I heard lenovo provides different specs than the ones mentioned on their website, and I don't think it's full HD. I heard about overheating problems on that too so I basically went for a safe pick which is the Z510, I'm not sure tho.

Is the difference in details/sharpness that noticeable or can it be neglected? Also I heard you can prevent pixel stretching if we're lowering the resolution for exchange of full screen.

But as mentioned I heard a lot of things about the y510p including overheating, I don't think it's worth the risk. And again the Z510 full hd one will provide better peformance than the y510p at maximum resolution, no?

However, I have one last question and I hope I'm not being needy.
Is there a great difference between the 740m and 755m that should make me take the risk of an overheating y510p?
