LG Soundbar disconnecting from Samsung TV

I have realised that the tv sound output needs to be connected to the Soundbar . Once this is done then the sound quality improves however when we turn the tv and sound bar off the sound input reverts to the tv speakers. Is there a way to save the setting ? Also we have a LG DVD player which turns on when we turn the soundbar on is there a way to prevent this ?
