Logitch Z5500 or 5.1 reciever?

Folks,

I was wondering what would be better: Logitech Z5500 or "whatever-fits-the~300euro-budget" 5.1 Receiver ?

I'm planning to connect it to my Set-top box (which has digital output and HDMI to the HDTV) or to my PC (probably to analog outputs of the Creative XtremeGamer card) when watching Blue-rays.

Any suggestion on this?
Or in case receiver is the way to go, which one has the optimal price/performance ratio?

For 300 Euro or 369.00 US, you will not be able to find a set up including a receiver that can justify the 100 dollar price difference, let alone sound as good as the z5500

A lot of people have been asking about the z5500 recently, its pretty funny.
Are the speakers worth the 400.00US price tag logitech has them for? NO
Are the speakers better than a home theater in a box? If your spending 300ish US dollars... Yes

Everything depends on the size of your room and your listening intentions. If you are getting these speakers for music, DONT! they arent made for music, they are made for games and movies. Music is made to be listened in 2.1 or 2.0 STEREO, not 5.1 or 6.1 or 7.1 or 7.2.
People who buy surround sound systems to listen to music are DUMB.

How big of a room are you going to use this in?
What is your general purpose for these speakers?
Do you mind slowly buying equipment?
Do you mind eventually spending around 1000.00 Euro?

answer those questions and ill try to give you a definitive answer.

even cheap denon bookshelves and a cheap pioneer receiver all for 400 british pounds will KILL the logitech z-5500 speakers.

and in the UK the z-5500 only costs about 300,

tbh, there not very good sounding to me, and i would never ever ever spend a penny on those.

The Z-5500s lack any modern audio/video decoding that an A/V receiver would provide. Sonically, I don't think any 5.1s would sound better than the Z-5500s, but the opposite is also true. They might sound a little better but also have less features.

At $400 there are much better options than the Z-5500s.

The price of the Z-5500s today simply reflect low supply since they are no longer in mass production. The street price of the Z-5500s in 2006 was $220, and back then, was up to date in decoding technology. Today, it's a relic.

man... its so damn cheap in US. in teh UK it costs around about $450/£300

would never buy it anyway.
