Looking at laptop - will I be able to extend battery life?

I'm looking for a laptop for university for computer science and don't have more than £800 to spend. I've found a decent one here but the battery life seems less than ideal - 6 hours average. I don't know much about laptops so I don't know if this is better or worse than others.

I was wondering if I'd be able to somehow extend the battery life, by underclocking, using integrated graphics, etc.?

Thanks.

Solution
6 hours is average for a standard size notebook. So don't get your hopes too high.

Here are a bunch of tips to get a tad more battery life out of your system:

1. Use the Power Saver power plan in windows.
2. Yes, use the IGPU exclusively.
3. Run your monitors brightness below 50% at the least.
4. Run as few background (and foreground) programs at the same time.
5. Take care of your battery, and calibrate it every month.

Well, in the UK things will be more expensive, but with that budget, I can buy a decent Macbook here in the U.S. with excellent battery life (10 hr), and expected 1,000 charge cycles, which in my everyday use will last 7+ years before batt has to be replaced.
