Wait just a little bit longer until the new llano A8 chips are available in the UK. They will game, are decently fast and have amazing battery life. should come in at about your price range too. Give it 2 weeks and I say they will start being available.

Though saying that WR2's suggestion is pretty damn cheap and very cheerful. That also seems well suitable for your needs.

I am just totally sold on long battery life. 8 hours or so reported from various reviews. Total game changer.

just asking not going to get.. what is the Dell Alienware M11X in the link like? any good for price?

and llano A8 chips that good for gaming?

The GT 335M is a decent mid-range graphics card just a couple % points below the HD 5650 in 3DMark Vantage GPU benchmark.

The low power Core 2 Duo SU73001.3GHz CPU is a serious (IMO) impediment to getting the full benefit out of the GT 335M. Definitely underpowered compared to the i3-380M 2.53Ghz CPU of the Dell Ins 15R.
CPU performance ranking: Core i3 380M #55 / Core 2 Duo SU7300 #291

Here is a review of a new Llano laptop - not yet available in the UK (and probably well above your budget range as configured when VAT is figured in).

Hi WR2,

I don't think that is a fair example to put forward in regards to the llano config. The one quoted has discrete and APU graphics. For his budget I would suggest the A8 unpaired with another dedicated card.

It is a little soon to be speculating about the UK price penalty that will be applied to these. I really hope they offer decent configs around £500 because I want one too, and will have to stretch to even put that together.

Oh, and I agree, the "alienware" (dell) machine is a poor excuse for a gaming laptop. 11.6" screen ROFL.

Just imagine playing black ops and trying to find the single tiny pixel (enemy) that you are getting pwned by. Maybe you could attach the laptop to a helmet so that your eyes are like 3 inches from the screen.
