My general use would be some light gaming (60-ishfps,1080p, low-medium settings), and programming. Would highly appreciate some recommendations or tips for searching

Things I'm looking for:
ASUS-Acer-Lenovo preferred, seen these laptops before and I trust these brands
16GB (Can settle with 8GB if it is exceptional in every other way)
i5/i7
500+GB SSD (Or ability to change the SSD out for another M.2 card)
High-ish battery life. It'll likely be away from a charger between 8-12 hours a day with alot of that being usage time.
Budget is somewhere between 800-1200. I can go higher if nothing else can meet all/most of these options but prefer sub-1400.

Thanks in advance! :)

I would start with good, matte (non-glossy) screen. This brings you in the realm of business laptops, not the ones sold at BestBuy / Costco. "Gaming", "productivity" and "Battery life" just don't mix.

I would dial down on the CPU, hold on on RAM, probably dial down the SSD and opting for secondary HDD.

I am using one of these, with DVD slot converted for HDD use. The added bonus is that it's easy dockable. Battery life is almost enough for trans-America flight writing code.
