Looking for a low-budget PC for programming - Computer Science studies.

Hello! I am on search of a laptop suitable for programming tasks. I may be a Computer Science and am planning ahead for a PC up to the minimum requirements.
...Something below $500 or around ₦100,000- ₦150,000.
I need a high quality type, which would have a life span of over 6 years as the minimum.
Suggestions on RAM, HDD size would be appreciated for the course; do I require a large RAM?
I think I'd also need one which would stay on for three-five hours on battery.

If you're using virtual machines, then having large RAM would be great as the more RAM you have, the better VMs will run.

With $500, I don't think you can get anything "high quality".
Does your College/University have requirements, if so, could you post them here?

I do not like this model because it gets hot. I need a. Minimum of 8GB RAM and a SATA HDD of any size (I have a 500GB Western Digital Blue HDD which I can replace with).

A DDR II SDRAM if possible. With a fast processor, more than 2.4 GHz.
