C'mon dude. If you don't really know, don't point somebody to a lame site with generic content, especially when the models listed on that review are much more expensive, especially overseas, than the one's he presented as options.
Clearly there's no comparison. The Asus X550LNV-XX224H is hands down a better performer for gaming but the 4712MQ is a much stronger CPU. I believe the 4500u is more than adequate for gaming and programming however so unless you plan to do heavy rendering or run other very CPU intensive applications, it should be fine and is paired with a better GPU so the gaming will be better with the X550LNV.
 
I'd say medium settings for sure, high settings maybe depending on some of the quality settings. A lot of titles will be able to be played at high or maybe even ultra settings, but very demanding titles like BF4 and Tomb Raider might need medium settings for the best experience.
