Looking for good diagnostic/testing software for hardware

I am looking for some good diagnostic/testing software for computer hardware.

The shop I am working for has been using Inquisitor, which works fine on older systems, the Intel I-series and even a bunch of the AMD Opteron porcessors the software isn't working right.

Anyone have any recomendations on good testing suites that can be run from livecd/ usb drive
