I'm looking for a laptop that can run some of the latest games on high settings.
Budget: $1600, will go up $100 if the laptop is superb
Weight preference: Under 7lbs
Screen Size: 15.6
Need: 120G+ SSD, GTX 9xxm

I'm currently looking at a Sager NP8268-S customized with an i7-4810MQ, 16G RAM, and GTX 970m.

I'd appreciate any insight (is 16G RAM necessary?)

Thanks!

16GB is a little much. Unless you are planning to run additional software or do some type or other work with it. (Video editing, rendering, virtual machines, etc)

Other vendors to look at might be ROG and MSI if you want something that 'looks' like a gaming laptop.

Other then that, an SSD, 970m, and the i7 make for about the best build you can do for the money. 980m is just shy of being a desktop 970, but that is pretty expensive.

Honestly, if you know which specs you're aiming for and can distinguish between them, its simply a matter of using google to shop around. You're right about trying to find something in a 970/980m chip in it. 16GB of RAM is great along with a 4th generation i7.

Take a look at Alienware and MSI.
