Looking for help with Bluetooth headphones for my husband who doesn’t hear well, so I can turn the tv volume down.

I have a Samsung smart tv and a sound bar hooked up to it. I can pair my Bluetooth headphones to the tv and it says they are paired but no sound comes out I’d the headphones. What am I doing wrong?

The TV may not send audio to the soundbar and the headphones at the same time. Try turning off the audio output to the soundbar in the TV menu
That won't solve your problem since you want both on at the same time. You may need to split the audio output of the TV and connect both the soundbar and an external bluetooth transmitter.

Could I connect a Bluetooth receiver to the sound bar and then connect his headphones to the sound bar?

You can split the audio output of the TV and connect both the soundbar and bluetooth transmitter to the TV. The transmitter will need to have the same kind of input as the soundbar (most likely optical audio) The TV audio output will need to be set to PCM stereo if it isn't already set that way.
