Hi, I'm looking to buy a laptop for my dad. He mostly just watches movies (blu-rays), and we want it to be as "future proof" as possible considering he doesn't upgrade his computers for like 10 years. My sister was looking at these laptops: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Acer-Nitro-5-Gaming-Notebook-i7-2-8GHZ-16GB-256GB-SSD-1TB-HDD-15-6-/152684403676?hash=item238cb31bdc:g:~mkAAOSwt05Zp0xg

but I wasn't sure if they'd be overkill or not. I know he wants really good quality for his movies, though. We live in Australia. Any advice on what laptop to buy?

Well if it never or seldom gets moved, I'd be looking at 17" laptops for the extra screen real estate over a 15.6" display. I...
I'm not much help, but it looks like the first one and third one have no optical drive. He's gonna have to plug in an external Blu-ray drive.

The second one (Lenovo) has an optical drive, but can't tell if it plays Blu-rays or not. Could probably swap it out for one that does after you get it (if it doesn't already play them).

Does your Dad move his laptop around a lot, or mostly use it in one spot for extended periods?

Have in mind that the second laptop has an HQ wich is with 4 cores processor. The other one is only 2 cores. If you think on not changing for a long time buy the HQ since it's higher level of processor and he may want to plug a cable in and watch the movie on higher ress, so that laptop will be able to handle it perfectly even on very high res.

He uses it one spot in his room. I mentioned the optical drive thing and my dad said, if he can't put one into it, he'll buy an external one if the laptop doesn't come with one.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, getting the one with the better processor, I just didn't know if it was overkill.

He's using it for other general stuff, too, I just pointed out the movie thing since that's the most intense it's gonna get with the laptop. He's not a gamer, for instance.

Of the three being discussed, I'd go for the Lenovo if the display is decent.

I think you mean that the THIRD laptop has an HQ processor. :D
