Looking to hook sound bar to tv

I have a TCL Roku smart tv and I am trying to hook up my LG sound bar to it.I have used the optical cord(that comes with the sound bar)and an HDMI input and I am having a real hard time getting things to work.Even with them hooked up(with the optical cord),the sound bar plays and sound also comes out of the tv speakers.It is like an echo,that is very annoying.The model # of my TCL tv is 55S515.Will you please help me out with this????

Seems obvious to me... there is a setting on the TV that says, Internal or External speaker, of simply Speaker ON/OFF (referring to Internals).

And you don't need to use HDMI-ARC and optical audio. Choose one. No difference in sound quality.
