Hi I own a Toshiba Satellite s55-a5279. I want to up the gaming performance on my machine so i plan on building an eGPU using a Gtx 760. I have read up on the DIY guides but I am not tech savvy enough to understand all it is saying. This is not a permanent solution for I plan on building the pc in the future and when I do I can transer parts such as psu and gpu on to it. I do not even know if my laptop is compatible with an egpu so if you are knowledgeable in this subject could you give me advice on building one, direct me to a site than can, or give me another solution that can increase gaming performance on my system?

It's a waste. There is not external bus on a laptop that will not severely bottleneck a decent GPU(to the point your 740m would be faster). Even an express card slot(your laptop doesn't have one) only works at 1x pci-e speeds. Unfortunately you are stuck with your 740m for now.
