I'm right on the verge of needing to build a new PC in order to keep of with the demands of 4K video editing. Previously my setup (Intel i7-2670QM, 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT, 500GB 840EVO SSD, 8GB DDR3, Samsung S34E790C) has been enough to handle 1080p editing. However, 4K is really taxing on the outdated i7, constantly reaching 100% utilization during simple editing. Instead of spending a fortune on a new rig, I was hoping I could make this upgrade for a reasonable price. Here is the thread that gave me hope:

Can someone let me know if this can be done for my particular laptop?
Here are the CPU details:

Nothing that you could upgrade to from Sandy/Ivy Bridge generations would really be much of an improvement. What the i7 QMs really lack for horsepower just comes down to clockspeed. You won't really see too much of an improvement stepping up to a 2820QM or something of the sort.

Kinda sounds like what you're after is a desktop editing rig - or - perhaps an i7-7700HQ laptop, but you may not see much more of an improvment dealing with 4k video. In the magnitude of ~30% or so.
