Lucille's BBQ (at the District)

A group of my friends (and avlv regulars) was in town for a few days
from their base in the Midwest, and we decided to try Lucille's
Smokehouse BBQ for 1 of our dinners out while they are here.
Lucille's just recently opened, and they had never been before. I
had never been to this particular Lucille's, having visited the
Torrence and Ranch Cucamonga locations numerous times before.

This Lucille's is located on the SW side of the District, a short
walk from Green Valley Ranch casino. Parking can be a PITA, since
there are a number of restaurants, along with the Pottery Barn, on
that side. We arrived just after 7PM on Monday evening and got
seated within 5 minutes (which is surprising for a Lucille's).

The menu is typical for a BBQ joint
see........... http://www.lucillesbbq.com/eats.asp

We ordered drinks, then the sampler platter and a plate of shredded
onions (which are to DIE for). Everyone in the party had a different
entree. We are all rib aficionados, and found the ribs here to be
just average. Slightly better than a Tony Roma's, but not as good as
some of the local joints back in the Midwest, and not CLOSE to many
in the mid south. Service was OK, with the waiter doing a good job
on refills, and arriving just in time with the plate of moistened and
warmed towels to clean up with.

The bill for 6 came to $165 with the tip, no alcohol, just soft
drinks and iced tea.

In the scale of rib joints in Las Vegas, Lucille's is not the best,
but far from the worst. It's probably not worth a special trip,
especially for someone visiting from out of town and staying on the
Strip or downtown. Those who live here on the west or north side of
town have a couple of superior choices, as do those who live in
Henderson. For me, if I'm at GVR, Lucille's provides a definite
alternative to dining yet again in one of GVR's restaurants, although
at a cost of having to actually PAY for it as opposed to getting the
meal comped.

We all pretty much agreed that it wasn't bad, but that we'd ALL had
far better. Still, the company made for a great evening, even if the
food wasn't the highlight.

Well, it's certainly off-topic!

He apparently meant the plug for this bbq place to go to
alt.vacation.las-vegas, because that's where he'd posted it an hour
before. (That at least explains the reference to "avlv.") Why he
bothered us with it later, though, is a mystery.

I guess they like eating bbq in Vegas inbetween bouts of losing the
kids' college fund at the tables.

And with so much good BBQ around, a shame to settle for marginal, at
best.
Least I know what to avoid.
