we have a vision to merge the notion of a search-type activity with a curated content experience. […] We think the benefit to the consumer is huge.

Like a walled garden then?
It removes the process of trial and error from clicking on search results and hitting ‘Back’ in the browser."
Seriously?
That leaves me no choice:
Ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Someone should really do a search engine similar to tumblr where you can just auto scroll through more search content as needed.

[citation][nom]TunaSoda[/nom]"Lycos once was one of the world's pre-Google big search engines next to Yahoo, Excite, HotBot and Altavista."and DOGPILE![/citation]

Before Google came out, I used to use Hotbot and Altavista sometimes NorthernLight.
Google came out in 1998, which is younger than other search engines. Here are some other search engine time lines.

People (particularly android fans) are quick to assert "Has Apple ever invented anything?".

But a much more valid question is, Has Google ever invented anything?? Anything at all?

People forget history quickly, yes Xerox invented the mouse and gui, but Apple created the first ever home desktop PC (and later the first laptop), which used the mouse as we know it today. Apple also invented, drop-drop, menu's, pointer, windows, etc - 10 years or so before Microsoft came an copied them (badly at first).

Apple also recently invented Thunderbolt and previous Firewire (5 years before USB and twice as fast).

People forget that some of the smartest engineers from Next, Intel/AMD/Xerox have/work for Apple including some clever CPU designers, best GUI engineers (Apple/Next), and of course designers.

so they are going to try to compete against google, with a new search engine that uses a tarnished name.

Imagine trying to compete with firefox by making a browser that is IE6 based and is called Hitler navigator.

Apple fail, particular since the facts are ALL wrong. So wrong in fact it's not even funny.

[citation][nom]ibnmuhammad[/nom]Apple also recently invented Thunderbolt[/citation]

Like others have stated, your facts are way off.

Like this gem, apple did not invent thunderbolt, it was in development for years by Intel. Apple basically bought an exclusivity rights agreement, so only apple could use it on their brand of computers. Much like At&t had with the first iPhones.

It is sad because much like firewire, apple serial port, and even to a part scsi. These peripheral connections were almost exclusively Apple at first....so one could saying Apple.....where peripheral connectors go to die.
