Dear community,

I am looking for a laptop around 500 bucks, while I am a hardcore Android/Windows user, for the previously specified price, windows laptops aren't looking too good. I found a couple of MacBook's on eBay (12", Core M 5y31 1GHZ, 2015), and they look like a much better deal than the Pentiums and 720p displays of Windows laptops in this price range. I am a very mobile person and don't think that a bulky plastic laptop would be convenient. I edit photos (a lot), I am an author. Thus I need something reliable and durable. I currently own a Lenovo Ideapad 510 15" Intel Core I3 6100U, GT940MX, (which I will probably give to a family member) but I had SO MANY ISSUES (boot loops, a uncountable amount of blue screens, unresponsiveness at it's finest, etc) in the past 6 months that I decided to just give up windows on the portable market. I have been attracted to the MacBook pros from 2012 at 500 bucks but I have found the 12" MacBook with around the same performance as the 2nd and 3rd gen i5's, and a "very good screen".
anyways I would very much appreciate an "outside" perspective on the matter

Kind regards,
-Thomas

Those Macbooks for $500 are probably used/refurbs, are you sure you're comparing apples to oranges and looking at used/refurb windows laptops?

The Asus Zenbook UX305 came out around the same time as the 12" Macbook and offered pretty much the same specs for literally half the price. Only real differences were lower resolution screen (1080p, which is plenty for a 13" screen in my opinion), and a regular SATA SSD vs PCIe SSD, if I recall correctly. Might be worth looking into those.

I remember helping my then-girlfriend pick out a laptop a couple years ago, she went with the UX305 on my recommendation and seemed quite happy with it.
