I have the option to buy this macbook pro 17 inch (with a new battery) for 400$

it has a few scratches but nothing major.

is it worth it? i can see it in person before buying it as well.

it's the model with the i7 2.4Ghz, 8gb ram, 750GB HDD and a AMD 6750M 1GB

another question is if it would be hard to carry around for school and such.

i haven't had that many laptops so i wonder if 3kgs would be alot

Yes, you're right. Perhaps something niché, or it has something that is not working as expected.
Just check, because the performance of the laptop should be very good, it has a quad core cpu with hyperthreading, and user replaceable ram and storage. If you need macOS, and it cost a third less than the other models, seems to be a great deal. (just that you have to deal with the extra weight and bigger bags to carry it.

I would say, yes the 17" really is rather big and bulky to carry around. Even the 2011 15" is a bit big for school. I carried the 2010 model for a year(until it died in a freak accident) and the 2011 for 3 more years, and it was heavy, and the size wasn't needed.

If you're big Apple fan and you want this computer just for fun, I'd say go for it. $400 probably is a fair price, especially with a new official Apple battery. 8GB of RAM is nice, but 16GB is better. For $150 you can get a 500 GB SDD in there, and it'll really fly. Definitely plan on doing that upgrade if you get it.

I'm not a huge apple fan, i do however need the OS for some specific programs (better to work with those than simmilare software in windows)

I've had a 15 inch retina model before (i sold that because it simply got way to hot, 87c in youtube vids)

I'm going to see it, but i think you might be right 17 inch is quite big

specially comparing it to my 12.3 inch surface pro 3

Perhaps you could get a 13 inch (or 15 inch) 2011-2012 for same price, and they would be more portable. But you will sacrifice gaming (if you choose the 13 inch).

That's the "funny" thing.

i live in Denmark (i prefer this forum compared to the danish one since people generally know more here)

The 15 and 13 inch models are way more expensive, 200$ more at least.

i guess it's because the 17 inch is more of a niché product ?

I'll just bring up one more thing.

2011 is USB 2.0, 2012 is USB 3.0

that should be a big factor for a ton of people. A lot of devices now are USB 3.0 only, and certainly the speeds for external drives are significantly faster.
