Marantz SR7007 AVR & Bose 901

Will this combination work for stereo only? I can't seem to get both speakers working at the same time, but I know both speakers work with a different receiver, same equalizer, and same wires. It has to be in the setup of the receiver and connections. I've tried following the manual for both the speakers and receiver. Any hints?

There is nowhere on the SR7007 that you can connect the Bose EQ and get it to work without the addition of an outboard power amp that would drive the Bose. As to getting both to work at the same time I suspect that you have one of them connected to the wrong speaker terminals on the receiver. Not hard to do. Check to make sure that they are both connected to the A front speaker terminals. Make sure to go to the speaker set up menu and set front to large and all others to none if you only have 2 speakers to connect.

I wonder if I could ask for a bit of an explanation. The Marantz SR7007, http://www.us.marantz.com/us/products/pages/ZoomImage.aspx?img=/Assets/images/products/SR7007/XL_c26-MARSR7007-bk.jpg, has connections labelled PRE OUT and 7.1CH IN. If I connected the Bose Equalizer for the Bose 901s through the Front Left and Front Right as described on page 3 of the manual, http://worldwide.bose.com/productsupport/assets/pdf/guides/speakers/901_series6/en/st_list_en_901.pdf, wouldn't the Bose Equalizer work on the 901s assuming I connect them to the Front A speakers posts? Or are these INs and OUTs different from the pre-home theater preamp and power amp connections I remember from the '80s? Thanks.

It doesn't function like preamp out main amp in or a tape monitor loop. The 7.1 channel input would be what comes out of the front preouts so you would get no sound at all or feedback.
You could get a similar EQ using the Audyssey MultiEQXT in the receiver. Bass and treble are affected by the Bose EQ and the Audyssey may not work exactly the same but it is easy to try and it probably will sound better than flat.
If you have the Bose EQ, a source of test tones, and a way to measure the output of the EQ you could measure the tonal adjustments that the EQ makes and try to duplicate them in the receiver.

I do have a second, older amp with preamp out and main in connections. I would assume I could use it as a power amp and that would allow the use of the equalizer. Am I correct?
