Knowing Dell, it is like the $299 computer on the front cover of their
monthly catalog that you can never get for $299...

It was probably just a ploy to get people to place orders before they had them
in stock (I've called many times and Dell said they had none) and now that they
have them, the price went back up maybe? I went ahead and got mine from Ritz
since Dell wouldn't give me a straight answer on whether or not they were in
stock.

It would be my undertanding that if Dell actually had them in stock,
they say so because they'd be remiss if they weren't proud of that fact.
When they can't (or won't) provide a straight answer to a direct
question, something ain't passing the smell test.

I ordered mine at 15% discount. Of course I have to pay sales tax but that
still puts it cheaper. the delivery time I was told is on or before December 8.
Given that I still save about $150. I can wait a week or two.

A week or two wouldn't be bad, but did you check out the Dell website lately?
It shows the shipping time for the 7D to be "3 weeks +." Check it out. When I
flat out asked the guy if they had them in stock a couple of weeks ago, he
said, "yes, but there's a lead time of 5-7 days." I asked him again, do you
have them in stock, or not, and what does a "lead time of 5-7 days" mean
anyway? He danced around the question for about two minutes and I just told him
I'd be ordering elsewhere and hung up.

Take care,
JD

That often depends on the deals at Dell.

eg. Sony P150 the moment it was avail. at dell with rebate was
dirt-cheap at ~$420, they had 1-2 day notices; then when the deal got
hot, lots of people jumped in, the =current= stock sold out and the
notice got bumped up to 3-4 weeks. But, in less than a week later, when
they got another shipment in that covered all of those ealier orders,
the notice dropped down to 1-2 days before people jumped in again and it
went up.

Thus, while it may say 3-4 weeks this very day, if you've got the coupon
and can wait a few days to see what their next shipment brings, you may
well get bumped right back up to immediate availability.

I can't see the "Aguyathome" home orig-post so replying here.

Regardless, if an order had been places at the time that was on the web, they
would have had to honor the price... how long the delivery would have been might
be another matter.

Cheers,
Alan
