Solution
The port for the mic on that device may not register this change. A way around it would be to get a 3.5mm to USB adapter, kind of like this one, https

NOTE: It is also possible that the headset is the issue, so that when the mic is moved it doesn't turn itself off. You may want to check that part by connecting to different devices to see if it works on them, before spending any money to get an adapter.
