Microphone and headphones in the same port?

I'm think of buying a microphone but I came across a problem. I only have 1 3.5mm port on my laptop and if I buy the microphone I want it will have a 1/4in port so I'd have to get an adapter that would go into my 3.5 jack port. But what about my earphones? They are 3.5mm port too.

Get a 3.5mm port splitter with one male and two female outs. Also get a 1/4in to 3.5 adpater and put that into the splitter.
