hoenslty i'l never for the life of me understand how the hell a tablet pc or ipoop can outsell a net book. net books have a lot more functionallity and cost ahlf teh price of a tablet . my only guess is that ipoop is selling solely on the d--k measuring factor , versus actually usability.

maybe it's just me. i prefer pc;sover console because they can do more than game , i don't own a cell phone (yet) becuase i don't need one at the moment (and part of me never wants to get one becasue of the hassle involved with being so dependant on this gadget or that one). i guess i'm unique among geeks, i like my desktops and i might even like a laptop if i could afford one that had uber specs. but in general i don't relaly care for two thrids of teh techno gadets all these companies are tryign to sell. for instance ,why the hell woudl i want a laptop or net book or ipoop if say i was to go vactioning in the mountains or at a beach , they woudl sjut be distractions form enjoyign the location of teh vacation if you ask me. I never been much for emails , face book , myspace , or any of the other countless means to tie one's life to a techno gadget. so yeah maybe i'm odd and maybe i even have a love/hate relationship with technology. but do we really need any more distractions from life past a cell phone and desk top pc ?

I find it really sad that people prefer such over-priced/under-powered hardware like a tablet (in any os flavor) compared to a netbook (which itself is over-priced/underpowered compared to a laptop).

And demonhorde665, use spellcheck. People will take your opinion more seriously.

I can't believe that I actually heard that the medical field was considering using the maxi pad for charts and the likes. So what happens when crapple decides to no longer support the app and a hospital crashes?

The whole device is just a joke, honestly no USB port...come on, I use one personally at least 25 times a day between cameras, external drives, keyboards, mice, flash drives, bluetooth, etc...I won't even go into the DRM...

Crapple only sells products based on hype and not actual usability. I can't wait to see the maxi pad 2 because I already know based on crapple, that they will take the same device and add a single USB port and claim that once again they've changed the entire world of computers. The worst part though is all the users will rush out and buy this pos. Seriously, are the followers and purchasers of these products this stupid???

The ipad is only cool if you use it as a thin client machine utilizing thin apps or VMs. Other than that very specific functionality it is an overpriced and very fragile piece of equipment.

I have been holding off on getting a netbook until AMD comes out next year with their Llano CPU/GPU's
Just want to be able to do some light gaming on it and want a CPU more potent than an Atom.

I would posit from the headline and story of the article you are commenting on.

I think a lot of people are missing the point of the iPad which you can not replicate with a netbook or regular laptop. You can easily listen to music, play games, browse the web and use other apps while standing, walking around lying down and well just about anywhere.

The form factor or laptops/netbooks does not work this way. You need to be sitting down or set the computer on a flat surface to really do anything. Trying to hold a laptop in one hand, type and use a track pad is too difficult.

At first I was annoyed that the iPad did not use a desktop OS. Then I finally realised it is meant for content consumption not for heavy creation. Sort of like the tablets in the various Star Trek series any serious work was done at the Enterprise computer not on the tablets. I'm sure is how the successful Google and MS Tablets will work too.

MS has had a full tablet edition of Windows for at least 8 or 9 years. Guess what it has been a failure up till now because the tablet form factor just does not work with an OS designed for desktops with a mouse and keyboard (even trackpads are clunky). I'd guess that Windows 9 will be a hybrid of the two along with Mac OS 10.8 or 10.9 when large multi-touch screens become reasonably priced.

Can you please take your horrendously negative and biased opinion elsewhere? You don't have use for the iPad? Big deal. Others do, and they don't need to conform to your idyllic world. "k thxbai?"

As for Apple killing netbooks? Well, of course they are. Netbooks were a horrible idea in my opinion, and almost anything a netbook can do, you can do from a tablet form factor. Yes, they are more expensive.. but as with any "new" tech, it's gonna cost more. LCD's were very expensive at first.. Alot more so than CRTs.. Now look at them.. CRT's might as well be dead.

These tablets are using a multi-touch screen in a form factor that hasn't existed for very long.. Give it time, and you will see prices drop. It's newer tech, thats just the way it is.

And for the love of god, stop whining about there not being a USB port. It's a piece of mobile tech. Does your phone have a USB port? Apple didn't design the darn thing to serve the same purpose as a desktop or laptop. They designed it with a very mobile environment in mind. What is the point of it having a USB port if your CONSTANTLY moving while using it? Not to mention the battery drain that would impose upon the iPad. They want it to have a 10 hour "mobile" battery life. Not a 5 hour "mobile" USB life. Honestly, I can't think of much use for a USB port for a tablet.. But THAT could just be me. Any media I would want on it, I would load on to it from my desktop, and change it from there as required. Now maybe some of ya'll would want a usb to load someone else's media on to it.. but a simple ipod-usb connector does the trick there.. They just need to impliment a way to allow that on the software level without requiring it to sync to the computer. They do that.. and problem solved.

And lastly, I, personally, get pretty tired of the whole "its just a big ipod touch" attack. As someone once explained it to me: "Do you like your 27 inch TV? Yeah.. Well isn't a 52 inch better?" To which I respond with a hell yeah.

Sometimes, a bigger version of something smaller IS better. And with the iPad, it most certainly is.

Thats just my two cents.

Beyond that.. Apple obviously did innovate here.. Until the iPad.. the tablet market was a DOA field of tech. Not one honest to god successful product launch. And once Apple makes theirs.. the field takes off like a rocket.. and ALREADY is having a marked effect upon the netbook field.. Obviously Apple deserves credit here, so don't be pig-headed. Credit is due here. And if you don't wanna buy an iPad.. And want one of the android flavor.. You can still thank Apple. Because so far.. all android is, is an open source copy of everything the pc world thinks apple, and there iOS SHOULD be.

;D Just saying!

And this is just your opinion as well saying that it is a wonderful device. crapple designed it that way so they could release another version with a USB and sell it all over again. While my phone doesn't have a USB it DOES have expandable memory, what's that you say? Oh nothing you silly crapple fans would know about...crapple didn't design it for much of anything. Tried reading outside with a maxi pad lately vs say a kindle? Oh wait, crapple didn't design it for that. Way to bend over and take it...

Ahh yes praise be to crapple for reinventing another device...

Absolutely, it very much is my opinion.. And apparently a very large growing percentage of people agree with me 😛.. for netbooks to be actually taking a noticable hit is not a small feat at all.. After all.. netbooks were supposed to be the lastest and greatest.. and their already short life is already taking a hit? Does not bode well for netbooks at all.

And as for expandable memory... I've had a cell phone constantly for the last 10 years.. And the only time I've ever actually needed "expandable" memory.. Was when I had a crappy flip phone that could hold about 100 pictures before being out of space. On all the smartphones I've had.. Haven't needed anything extra. The normal person doesn't need it either. Your expandable memory, for the most part, is an elitist pc enthusiast requirement. And, I repeat, "for the most part". You obviously have use for it.. but as your on toms.. I think that its safe to say you are one. I am too.. In ways, but I've yet to see good reason for my desktop needs to be unjustly forced upon platforms and products that can't do everything my desktop or full sized laptop can do. Different platform = different uses. Maybe you don't need it, and thats all well and good.. but millions apparently do.

Now, they designed the iPad for consuming content. Which, let me assure you, it does very well. And comparing a general tech item that is designed for multiple uses to an item like the kindle.. which is ONLY designed for ONE, is rather immature. Stop doing that please. The iPad can serve AS an eReader.. but an item that is designed ONLY to be an eReader is OBVIOUSLY going to do better at that one task. Or why don't you tell me which plays movies better... the kindle or the iPad?

Make valid points, not rediculous ones.

And no, I didn't ever say "praise be" to apple for reinventing anything. But credit earned, IS credit earned. Back in the day.. people tried to invent flying machines all the time. ALL the time. The Wright Brothers actually DID it. Thats credit earned my friend. And while I am NOT saying the iPad is on the same level as airborne transportation.. It was a field with ZERO success. Apple changed that. Apple opened the format with a product that showed us it IS and CAN BE a very useful format.

That DESERVES credit. And sticking your tongue out at them, calling them names, and dissing everything they do, is very, very immature.

If you don't like them, don't support them. But people shouldn't act like children while doing it.

After all... We are better than the MAC crowd right? Then how about we start acting like it. ;P
