Microsoft Wants Internet Tax to Keep PCs Clean

What an astounding idea. Does anyone else see the similarities between this idea and China's Green Dam? Scary...

This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I'm not paying sh*t for computer illiterate people to not have viruses. They pay to have them cleaned up by computer stores. It's not my fault they are downloading porn and infecting their computers with sh*t that exploits security holes in the OS. They also already pay for Virus software (assuming they aren't using free software).

If Microsoft made a more secure OS this wouldn't even be an issue. And what about those people that are using Mac's? Would they have to pay the tax too? There's no way this is going to happen.

Just out of curiosity, do you consider your income tax to be a subscription fee as well? Actually, you probably don't pay taxes at all. I have a hunch you live on someone else's dime. And, as I said originally, it is not possible to create such a system. Do you understand why, or do I need to spell that out for you as well? You claim I don't know how "computer" works, yet your ignorance is obvious to everyone but yourself. Congratulations, you are, as they would say in business school, an unconscious incompetent.

I agree with everyone else on here that this idea is simply ridiculous. All this does is pass from the OS developers to the users by pretty much saying "its their fault they got infected, not ours!". During the time I used windows as my main OS (I use linux mostly now) I decided that AV and most real-time spyware scanners were more of a hinderance than they were useful and removed them. I was AV free for about three years and never had a single virus during that time.

This is more aimed at the generally computer illiterate computer population who doesn't know a damn thing about maintenance and would rather pay extra for a simple thing that they can do theirselves with little effort on their end. If this was an "opt in" service than those people would most likely go for it but if it was mandatory it would highly piss off the computer savvy people, especially those that use OSes that don't get infected with viruses and spyware (linux and macs).

Am I exempt as a Linux/BSD/Mac User? Hah! Microsoft and your bat-sh*t insane corporate leaders. You know why you know if there are holes in a mozilla or other open source project because they freely let you see, help, and fix them. Microsoft most likely has an unimaginable amount that no one will ever know except hackers because they don't let people see what thy are paying $300+ for.
