min size dish for guide/maps from G1

What would be the smallest size dish I can use to get the maps/guide from
G1? I'm only interested in X4, but I need to get the maps n stuff before I
can pull it in (unless there's a manual way to map X4 in the 4dtv).

Thanks!

For the guide, G1 is the only sat with that info. 10 foot is the recommended
minimum, with care a 7.5 foot can work. The channel maps themselves can be
obtained from other sats that are stronger and have less interference from
adjacent birds, and -possibly- a smaller dish could be used on one of those.

I'm getting the program guide about 90% of the time on G1 with a 6'
dish. But I pretty much dead center in the country so I'm probably
pretty close to the middle of the footprint.

Question for Lee...can you cite a source for being able to retrieve the
guide from another satellite? I'd like to read more about that.

Take care,
Rich

Good evening.
As far as I know, the US guide can only be obtained from G1. It is the
channel maps that can be found on other sats.

Do you know what other birds the channel maps are on? Any Ku by chance?
All I need is to download the map for X4 so I can get this one channel I'm
interested in... (Goodlife, American something or other, or whatever their
name is this month :)

Thanks!
Dave

Purple background with "Download Digicipher" means that maps are sent,
or maps were sent when that list was created or updated.

Would I be able to use a 6' Fortec FS6D (the non penetrating roof mount for
a 6 footer is pretty cheap) to get the maps from any of those birds?
Or should I just bite it and get the 8 footer? Or perhaps a 7.5 ?

Thanks
Dave

A 10 foot dish is best for 4dtv because of the signal/noise threshold.A
smaller dish can barely hold some signals.

Yes but

1. I'm only interested in getting the channel maps, mainly for X4

2. the nprm for a 10 footer is over $600 and requires 2200 pounds of blocks
which will stress the roof

3. See #1 and #2 :)

4. If there were anyone in the LA area with a 10 footer that would hook the
920 up for me to grab the maps, I could eliminate #1 and #2.

Thanks
Dave
