The old Google Wallet is now Android Pay. It is what you will use to make in-store NFC/contactless terminal purchases as well as in-app purchases. It will also continue to store your loyalty and gift cards. On Android devices with the old Google Wallet app installed, it will automatically change to Android Pay via an app update.

The app that is now called Google Wallet is supposedly completely new and purpose-built for sending and receiving money. You will continue to be able to access your Wallet Balance with a linked Google Wallet Card to make purchases and ATM withdrawals. If you want to use the new Google Wallet app you will have to install it from Google Play.

They have an FAQ about both apps here: https://www.google.com/wallet/faq/

And yeah, they probably should have mentioned something about all this since they included both Android Pay and Google Wallet in the table. Oh well.
