I usually don't get sad over tragedies because we live on planet Earth and things happen. Also if an adult dies from like cancer or something then it was just their time. But to hear about a child killed is really sad. That child had no possible way to protect itself and I'm sure all it wanted was some food. At the same time I can't say I would give the death sentence to these people. 5 years is a good chunk of time to re-evaluate life.

i'm 27, have a four year old daughter, and as a single father, i've never had any problems with parenting. she's active, loves pre-school, and has a PC of her own that she plays games on when she's not coloring or playing with her toys, this is a terrible story but it's not because of gaming as a problem like others have stated, it's the person and the mental instabilities they have. they scolded her, and when she still fussed they hog tied her and put her in a bag. that's not because of gaming. i've been active on different teams in different games for six years, and I only play when I have free time.

"The mother and her 20-year-old live-in boyfriend taped little Shizuku's hands and feet before putting her in garbage bag." WTF?!

Life sentence. Make them suffer.

The state of gaming has driven young people to the brink of madness,
This is totally inexcusable!!!

...well maybe if it was a realm 1st heroic kill on Nef.,..but otherwise totally inexcusable!

[citation][nom]Takuhi[/nom]If anything this is a failure of the Japanese Social Services and the ever increasing addiction of mentally unstable people.[/citation]

I know your post is meant to talk about addiction, but you're making a very broad statement that isn't correct. Persons with mental disorders are not more likely to be addicted to gaming than the general population. There is a higher rate of drug and alcohol abuse, yes, but this is because of self-medication. Most addicts have no other mental disorder but addiction. And most people with mental disorders are not a danger to themselves and others, and therefore there is no reason for social services to get involved.

An exception to this rule is antisocial personality disorder, which doesn't qualify as mentally unstable. It's a character flaw bad enough to interfere with normal life. Those with it have no remorse, no empathy, and high rates of addiction. That's likely what this woman has.

[citation][nom]bavman[/nom]Have you guys noticed that all the little kids getting killed because of their parents being addicted to gaming is usually the women's fault only? There were a couple stories that were exactly the same last year of some mothers playing farmville and neglecting to feed their children. Although sad, i find it strange that we (at least me) havent heard about fathers doing the same.[/citation]

Yeah, I haven't either. One of the stories I read here talked about a dad who was providing for the family but let the house get decrepid and such and that as close as I've seen mention of a dad doing wrong.

And men dominate the video game market, or at least the higher budget video game market.

It sounds like the mom is a sociopath with zero sense of right and wrong and obviously no emotional connection with the daughter (or anyone else). We can probably thank her parents for this shocking behavior. And I wonder how the babydaddy feels today.
They really take gaming to psychotic levels in Japan. Maybe the government should limit the number of consecutive hours individuals can play.

That's.... An extremely generous sentence. Though the death penalty may not be the answer legally (however much it satisfied justice) 5 years is a ridiculously small sentence.

That's like Breaking and Entering status. A child is dead, it's kinda more important than a theft of property.

Sociopaths know right from wrong, they just don't care. They do what benefits them. And psychotic means you suffer from delusions and/or hallucinations, it has nothing to do with extreme or violent behavior.

I love how their are all these Gaming ads on the page. *sigh* Oh, the cruel irony. That poor child did not deserve what happened at all.

I'm only 16, and I'm not too fond of having a child. I'm afraid I wouldn't be a very good mother, but I'm relived to know that I would NEVER put a child, mine or not, in a bag as punishment for something... just so stupid.

This mother and her boyfriend need to rot in jail for life.

With bags on their heads. That way a life-sentence won't seem too long...

i think am more scared of humans than any wild animals or aliens out there. That is just insane.

As a father of a 1.5 year old girl shame on this couple. I used to raid a lot before I had my baby girl once she was born everything was dropped and my attention is 100% to her. My daughter has brought so much joy to my life WTF were these parents thinking...wow I can't believe something like can happen. If you're not ready for a child than you should take better precautions to begin with....

too many people are using the idea that gaming is causing problems, gaming has always been a way to relax, if your overdoing it, it is because you got some problems that you would rather not face. it is too easy to blame people for death related to addiction to gaming, but we should look at the issues which causes us to become addicted and not the blame. society sucks and social problems exist with or without addiction. this story of a young girl dying because the biological mother(?) and boyfriend tied up the little girl to stop her complaining - not exactly good parenthood but not new. i do grieve for the lost of life and hope they never have another child again especially leave them in prison with no computer access ever again, but dont always blame gaming for a route cause of social problem or bad parents.

[citation][nom]MrSiko[/nom]That is awful. So, to recap, you need a license to have a dog, but any old asshat can have a baby?[/citation]
Not to mention these kids often turn into criminals so we end up paying for someone else's mistakes through higher taxes, violence and higher % unemployment.

[citation][nom]theguy82[/nom]Sickening! Jail for life...[/citation]
Why jail? They don't add anything productive to society and in jail they would just leech off the actual useful citizens, get rid of them and lower the burden on the country.
